Why Buying a Business Can Be the Best Thing for Your Health
Most men build a business for freedom. Few stop to ask if their body can keep up with the life they are chasing.
Tim T. Delaney bought a small business with almost no experience and little cash down. That choice set him on a path to financial freedom. He now helps other men do the same through his podcast, Business Buying for Financial Independence.
Tim's Health Journey
Tim hit 220 pounds at his heaviest, mostly during an office job in Ethiopia. His weight bounced between 180 and 220 for years.
In 2012, his father died of a heart attack at 57. Tim doubled down on cardio after that, thinking it would protect his heart. The cardio alone never fixed his weight.
A few years ago he read the book Outlive and realized he was not eating enough protein or lifting enough weights. He joined a 6-month fitness challenge that required 10000 steps a day, weight lifting 3 times a week and eating his bodyweight in grams of protein daily.
He completed two rounds in the first year and dropped close to 30 pounds.
The Buy Box Framework
Tim built a framework called the buy box for choosing which business to buy. The B stands for build your ideal life first.
Decide what your days, your family time and your health need to look like before you go shopping for a business. Buy a business that fits that life instead of building your life around whatever business you land on.
From Peace Corps To Business Owner
Tim planned to become a stockbroker until a realization hit him in his junior year of college. He joined the Peace Corps instead and served 3 years in Guyana.
He met his wife Sasha there. The couple later moved to Ethiopia, where Tim worked in international development. That path led him to business ownership and the health turnaround that followed.
What This Means For You
Financial freedom means more when you have the energy and strength to enjoy it. A business that fits your life protects your health and your family time.
